It’s almost beating a dead horse to say Oklahoma City Thunder fans are dedicated. Yet, even more ways they continue to show it to the nation and the NBA. Oklahoma City released that 99% of all season tickets were renewed this year. On top of all that, the ticket prices will stay the same.
“To take advantage of the fact that we’re in the finals this year would not necessarily be consistent with how we’re trying to build a long-term relationship with season-ticket holders and sponsors,” Brian Byrnes, a Thunder senior vice president.
Chesapeake Energy Arena seats 18,203. The team capped off season tickets at 14,100. That allowed the general public a chance at tickets. Which we’ve all come to realize, is a VERY hot ticket. With the 99% renewal, that means there are still more than 2,000 people waiting to get season tickets.
Last season, the Thunder experienced a 94% renewal rate, one of only six teams to reach that level. In addition to the Heat and Lakers, the others were the Dallas Mavericks, New York Knicks and Chicago Bulls.
“In the league the last 10 years or so, I think there’s only been four or five franchises to do 97 percent or better,” said Byrnes. “For us to be at 99 percent is just a remarkable metric of how loyal our fans are and how interested they are in this whole thing called ‘the NBA in Oklahoma City.”
For those that are curious how to get on a waiting list, Oklahoma City has set up the True Blue Alliance Club.
This is a quote directly from the website:
The Oklahoma City Thunder has reached its capacity for full-season tickets. We have created the True Blue Club as a means to help interested fans reserve their spot in line for full-season tickets when they become available. If you are already a full Season Ticket Member, this is your opportunity to add seats or refer a friend or family member who is interested in becoming a Season Ticket Member.
An initial payment of $100 per seat is required to join.
A flat $50 per account annual renewal fee is required for accounts not receiving seats in a given year and will be due starting on October 1 following the year of acceptance.
You may request to purchase a maximum of four (4) season tickets per True Blue Club account.
All monies paid towards the True Blue Club (including renewal fees) will be applied towards your eventual season ticket purchase.
You own your position in the True Blue Club.
Your position in the True Blue Club membership cannot be sold or transferred.
So, tickets will again be at a premium in Oklahoma City. I for one, love it. Thunder Up, OKC! Big Credit to Kelly Hines of the Tulsa World for doing the numbers crunching and getting the quotes.
