Thunder Can’t Rebound – Can’t Win, Fall to Jazz 109-94

212thunder

The Oklahoma City Thunder felt the wrath of a blow out tonight from the Utah Jazz. Utah grabbed the lead early in the first quarter and never looked back as the Jazz walked away with the 109-94. It was just the second loss in the month of February. The loss dropped Oklahoma City to 39-13 on the season.

Oklahoma City were led by Kevin Durant with 33 points. Russell Westbrook had 22 points, but it didn’t matter much when you don’t rebound. Oklahoma City allowed the Jazz 16 offensive rebounds. Those rebounds were cashed in for 18 second chance points.

“They beat us,” coach Scott Brooks talked about, “They took it to us. They beat us like we like to beat teams.”

At times it looked as if the Thunder weren’t even trying for rebounds, and getting back in transition. This allowed Utah to dictate the tempo of the game. Oklahoma City had 21 fast break points, but didn’t seem like it.

Oklahoma City were able to get within five points late in the third quarter, but the Jazz pushed it back up to 86-79 after three quarters. Utah ended any Thunder dreams by going on a 18-4 run to start the fourth quarter.

The Utah Jazz really were hungry coming off a two game losing streak, really were focused on the Thunder. They were able to make their baskets. They basically got every drop they threw up in the second half. Sometimes, that’s how the ball rolls.

Turnovers were huge against Oklahoma City tonight. It seemed like every time the Thunder turned the ball over the Jazz made them pay on the offensive end in some way.

“We just need to refocus and fight through,” Westbrook said. “You have night’s like this, just have to fight through them.”

Durant dropped 16 points in the third quarter, trying to keep Oklahoma City in the game, but no other player really were able to contribute. Outside of Westbrook and Durant, heading to the fourth quarter, the other players had a total of just 26 points.

Keys tot he Game

Three-Pointers: D
The Thunder didn’t defend the three very well, nor did they shoot it very well. Those are just a recipe for a bad game. Kevin Martin was not any help, as he went 0-of-4 from deep. We need him if we’re going to win road games.

Eye on the Prize: F
Yeah, this team definitely had the body language and attention span of a team that was caught looking forward. I thought this team was past this, but doesn’t look like they are.

Turnovers: F
Oklahoma City turned the ball over 20 times, and that contributed to 28 points off turnovers for the Jazz. It seemed almost ANY time the Thunder turned the ball over, the Jazz made them pay by scoring in some fashion on the turnover.
