#16 – Andre Roberson

Andre-Roberson

Our first unveiling of the 2013 Thunder rank shows that our writers pick Andre Roberson as the worst player on the team. Honestly, that’s not even that big of an insult. This team is loaded from top to bottom, and Roberson is just an unproven rookie. That’s why he ended up here. Roberson ended up anywhere from #10th on the list to multiple last place finishes.

Roberson, the first round pick out of the University of Colorado has a lot to prove as the Thunder surprised most of the league with their selection of him in the first round. He’s a really good rebounder, but everything else is why Roberson is at the bottom of the list.

His offensive ability in college was very limited at times. He had a solid freshman year, but never really developed over the next two seasons. Even his college coach, Tad Boyle, felt it was necessary for Roberson to return for his senior season. Roberson proved everyone wrong but getting drafted in the first round.

His defense also is really questionable as we saw throughout Summer League. He struggled to keep his defender in front of him. However, as the week progressed, we did see a vast improvement on the defensive end.  It wasn’t the best, but it was a definite improvement. That’s what it was about anyway.\

Roberson, the rookie, is a real wild card. While he is a rebounding magnet, he’s relying on that too much in the collegiate end after his offense dried up. His shot is really awkward, with a weird release point. This is causing for a long release. He takes his time drawing up his shot. That needs to be fixed. In this league, each second is crucial. Patience is a virtue, but in select situations.

Best part about Roberson being in Oklahoma City is that the Thunder have been proven to develop raw talent, Jeremy Lamb, James Harden, so far Hasheem Thabeet. There will be time to mature while spending a lot of road trips to Tulsa. He’ll basically spend his entire time there. We won’t see very much of him, if any. He’ll go the route of Perry Jones this season.

In a way, putting Andre at the last spot on the list is a bit insulting. It’s really because the rookie is unknown. He’ll have a few season to prove to Thunder fans why he should rise in the rankings and become a solid rotation player. Who knows, maybe if things work out, he’ll blow up and be a starter some day. Sky is the limit.
