Liggins arrested on felony domestic abuse complaint

Liggins arrested on felony domestic abuse complaint

imageThe Oklahoma City guard, DeAndre Liggins, was arrested Saturday evening on a complaint of domestic abuse. The Oklahoma City police department was called out near Northwest 180th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. Where it is believed that Liggins lived with his girl friend, Jasmine Horton.

Reports by KOCO-TV said that Horton ran out of the house claiming she had been abused. Neighbors alerted the authorities. When the OCPD showed up, Horton pressed charges and Liggins was taken into custody. The police did confirm that Braycn, the child of Liggins, was at the residency when the alleged assault took place.

With the presence of a minor during the alleged assault, the charges went from a misdemeanor to a felony domestic abuse. There is a report that Liggins used a weapon, but not sure what it may have been. All speculation outside of the charges.

Around 9PM, Liggins was booked into the Oklahoma County jail. Thunder general manager, Sam Presti said “We are aware of the situation and take this matter seriously. Presti continued, “We are in the process of gathering more information and have no further comment at this time.”

Liggins is on a non-guaranteed contract with the Thunder. Meaning, for Liggins to get paid, he has to make the regular season roster. The Thunder organization takes things like this very seriously, and this could put Liggins behind the 8-ball when it comes to making the squad. Wouldn’t be half surprised if he was released.

We will update when we have more information. Currently, Liggins has not bailed out.

UPDATE: 9/2

Liggins has bonded out of the Oklahoma County jail on an $8,000 bond this morning. Sources say that usually, on a domestic abuse charge the defendant has to wait to see a judge before being able to bond out. In normal circumstances, a person would have to wait until at least Tuesday to see a judge, due to the holiday weekend. Liggins attorney pulled some strings and got him in front of a judge early Sunday morning, allowing him to bond out.

We tried to reach Liggins this afternoon, he said his attorney has advised him to say “no comment.”

UPDATE: 9/3

Court documents are showing that Liggins used a fan to throw at girlfriend, Ms. Horton. Then he repeatedly stomped on her head while their two year old son watched. Horton locked herself in a room where Liggins kicked in a door, threw a gaming system at her, along with a fan. Horton was able to get free, ran outside, hollering for help.  When Horton went to the hospital, she had cuts and chest bruises. These are just accusations, but Liggins has not been formally charged. He also has erased almost every picture of him and Ms. Horton off of his social media.
