#9 – Derek Fisher

Derek-Fisher-OKC

We’ve learned to love and hate Derek Fisher over the last two seasons. He has brought us joy and anger all in the same games. He’s a very polarizing player for the Oklahoma City Thunder. Mr. Fisher will return to the Thunder for a third year, and his final year as a professional player.

What Fisher brings to the court isn’t nearly as good of what he brings in the lockerroom. He’s able to keep the heads cool, and level headed. However, his inability to really hit shots, specifically the open ones are why Fisher is where he is on the list. He was ranked as high as seventh twice, and Weston Shepherd had Fisher as low as 12th.

With the emergence of Reggie Jackson, we are going to be watching what Derek Fisher does even more this season. As this is his ride into the sunset, his contributions should be more on the sideline, and less on the court. We should be watching Fisher help Jackson grow as he helped Russell Westbrook grow.

With all of that, we criticize Fisher for his missed shots, and his sloppy play because of his old age. A lot of times, it’s not exactly his fault. He doesn’t choose when he plays. It’s on Scott Brooks. Brooks chooses when to play Fisher and when not to play him. Fisher is just doing his job. So, we all, including me, need to realize this at times.

One thing though, we can all count on is Fisher attempting many three-pointers from the wings. Oklahoma City won’t live and die by the Fisher, but it’s classy way that he’s going out with his letter, but it comes down to how good he is, and he’s not very good. Let’s all strap on our seatbelts for the wild ride, that is the Derek Fisher Express.

Here’s a recap of the #ThunderRank to this point:
