Alright, alright, you’re all waiting.. here it is! PS: Grant Jerrett is ineligible for the list due to he remains unsigned with the Thunder.
#4 – Thabo Sefolosha
Here’s the deal. We’ve broken down 11 other players on this list. Some have a lot of potential and some have a lot work to do. Then there are a couple of players who just do not offer a lot to this team this season. That brings us to the top of the list where the players have real set skills that bring something really valuable to this team.
When Oklahoma City traded for Thabo Sefolosha five years ago, the Thunder picked up a quality, yet young defender. He’s done nothing but become one of the league’s premiere guard defenders. He’s been able to give all the really good players fits and really overall pushing teams to the brink defensively.
What really has been impressive by Thabo Sefolosha, was not just defensive game, but his growth in the offense. His first five seasons of he shot just 43.8 percent from the field and an abysmal 30.4 percent from three-point range. He was an offensive black hole. However, the last two years, he’s dont fantastic. His shooting has improve to 47 percent from the field, and 42.2 percent from three-point range.
The best part of him getting better, is his solidifying his position in the starting line up. Despite having James Harden behind him, breathing down his neck, he fought off all competition and held his spot in the starting line up. He’s an evolving player. He spent a lot of time in Switzerland honing his game, mainly his perimeter game.
Watching the growth of Sefolosha has been really refreshing for a player who used to be so frustrating to watch. One thing Sefolosha needs to work on though, is his consistency. He tends to fade out in the second half of ball games. He’ll hit three or four shots quickly, and wouldn’t score the rest of the game. It’s something he should improve on this season.
Oklahoma City has really appreciated everything Sefolosha has done for them. His assets to this team are just as important as what Serge Ibaka can do for the Thunder, and he’s more talented than the other 11 players at this point. While that could all change, it’s pretty awesome to have him on our team this year.
