The Oklahoma City Thunder traveled Istanbul, Turkey on Wednesday to get ready for their first preseason game. Then they’re going to hop on a plane and travel to the United Kingdom to finish off their European trip. With so many young and inexperienced players actually still on the roster, this is a great bonding experience for the team.
“We’re just going to continue coming together and we get to bond more,” Perkins said. “We’ve been around each other and we’ve learned things we need to know about the new guys and the new guys are learning different things about the older vets. I think it’s just a good thing to be in another country, see different things and spend time with each other.”
“It carries over to the court.” Perkins continued. “The team that has the strongest bonds off the court, it carries over with the chemistry. I’m going to try my best to do that.”
Most people forget how young this team is this season. ten of the players on the team have four or less years of experience in this association. Being able to bond with your teammates, especially when so inexperienced, will allow you to perform better on the court. You’ve all seen numerous times when a team that has superior talent on the court, struggle because they have bad chemistry. Here in Oklahoma City, we have a motto of “Team is One.”
All of this is very important when you leave your second best player at home due to injury. You’ll want to make Reggie Jackson and Jeremy Lamb feel somewhat important as they’ll be very key to the Thunder success this upcoming season. Lamb spent a lot of time in Tulsa, not really having the full experience in Oklahoma City. He’ll receive all of that this this week on this European trip.
Being in another country, without really knowing anyone, can force the team to spend time with each other. While Oklahoma City known for their chemistry. However, there have been murmurs of some bickering in the locker room, this is a way to end those and get closer as a family. Because that’s what we are here, we’re a family.
