On Tuesday night, the Oklahoma City Thunder took on the Denver Nuggets, and rolled to a 109-81 victory, improving their preseason record to 3-0.
Kevin Durant led the way for the Thunder, scoring 22 of his 36 points in the first half, en route to the easy victory. Durant shot 13 of 20 from the field in just 23 minutes of play, and also contributed with six rebounds and four assists.
Oklahoma City played without injured starters Russell Westbrook (knee) and Kendrick Perkins (finger).
Tonight, the Thunder will take on the New Orleans Pelicans at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. This will mark the fifth time that the Thunder have played in Tulsa. In a preseason appearance last year, Oklahoma City defeated the Phoenix Suns 107-97.
In their last preseason game, New Orleans defeated the Atlanta Hawks 105-73 behind 23 points and 9 rebounds from Anthony Davis. The Pelicans are currently 4-0 in the preseason.
Thunder Injury Report:
The Oklahoma City Thunder will be without Russell Westbrook until mid-December, as he recovers from a right knee injury. Kendrick Perkins will miss his third consecutive game, after he dislocated his finger in the preseason opener.
Pelicans Injury Report:
The New Orleans Pelicans will be without swingman Tyreke Evans on Thursday night. Evans sprained his left ankle in the Pelicans preseason opener against the Houston Rockets. Center/forward Jason Smith is also expected to miss the game, after he suffered a hip impingement injury during practice last week.
The Thunder and the Pelicans have met a total of 64 times over their histories, with Oklahoma City holding a 38-26 advantage in the series. Last year, the Thunder won the season series 4-0.
What to watch for:
With Kendrick Perkins sitting tonight, Steven Adams and Hasheem Thabeet need to step up in his absence. Adams and Thabeet both struggled against Denver, and they have a lot to work on during the remainder of the preseason. It will be interesting to see how they perform tonight against the Pelicans.
Oklahoma City has continued to struggle from long distance during the preseason. The Thunder are shooting just 13-of-58 from the 3-point line. That comes out to a mediocre 22.4 percent. It is only the preseason, but the Thunder rely on their outside shooting, so hopefully this is not a sign of things to come once the regular season starts.
With Russell Westbrook out until December, Reggie Jackson will need to continue to step up in his absence. Thus far in the preseason, Jackson has played well, and he scored eight points, while adding three rebounds, three assists, and three steals in Tuesday’s victory over the Denver Nuggets.
